The following career and labour market information resources can be used to enhance the learning experience of students using programmes in The Real Game series.

myfuture is Australia's online career exploration and information service. It is valuable for students within the education and training sectors and is useful for all other Australians interested in exploring their career prospects and achieving their career goals.

You can access facts about occupations, salaries, courses, where you can do courses, your own region, industries and contact organisations. You can also access articles and activities like: getting a job, how to start your own business and working overseas. On the site you can also access your own personal career decision making tool.

Australian Bureau of Statistics (www.abs.gov.au)

The Australian Bureau of Statistics site provides information on a range of national statistics.

Career information products

The Career information products site lists Career Information booklets, produced by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, which aim to assist Australians choose an occupation and plan their career.  Electronic versions of these booklets can be downloaded and include the following titles:

The International Real Game (www.realgame.com)

The International Real Game site provides current contact information for national Real Game websites, organisations and coordinators in all Real Game series partner countries.

The Job Guide (www.jobguide.dest.gov.au)

School students and school leavers making their first career choices, and older people thinking about a career change, will find The Job Guide an excellent source of information. It provides information on over 600 occupations and describes the education or training necessary for those occupations. It also provides assistance with choosing a career, helpful hints on how to look for work in the transition from full-time education to the workplace and advice on further education options. Parents, teachers, students and career counsellors will find a great deal of useful information in the material.

Job Outlook (www.jobsearch.gov.au/joboutlook)

Job Outlook provides information on job prospects, weekly earnings, type of work and other information useful for anyone interested in employment Australia-wide.

The Source (www.thesource.gov.au)

The Source provides information about the programmes and services that the Commonwealth Government provides for young Australians.

WageNet (www.wagenet.gov.au)

Wagenet provides information on rates of pay and conditions of employment, award information and employee entitlements regarding annual leave, redundancy notice pay, sick leave and related issues.

Evaluation of The Real Game

A survey of usage of The Real Game (12-14) in schools and non-school organisations across Australia has recently been completed, and the results are extremely positive. 78% of respondents rated the Game as 'effective' or 'extremely effective' as a resource for their organisation, and the majority of users noticed positive outcomes for participants after delivery of the programme, such as the development of career plans (57%), improvement in attitude and behaviour (47%), and greater application to studies (22%).
